Truth, Beauty, Goodness
We're living in absolutely surreal times. Realities that even a decade ago would have been unthinkable are normalized. We're desensitized to violence, corruption, immorality and extreme lack of character. We've become relativist toward the gross misgivings of leaders who are supposed to be motivated to serve people. Instead, they're motivated by power and profit. Disgusting wealth, with the capacity to end world hunger, homelessness and many other social ills, is concentrated in just a handful of multi-billionaire portfolios. I fear many of us are ready to give up and resign to the "whatever happens, happens" perspective.
I can't do that.
In my life, I've become accustomed to the imperative to fight my own battles, and at times I've chosen to take on the battles of others too. I cannot accept the lies, the ugliness and the evil that lurk menacingly around every corner. I won't retreat from that. We're in a battle of wits with bad players intent on burning the whole world down for personal profit. It's a battle we can't retreat from. If we do, we will lose the truth, beauty and goodness that we all deserve to experience in our world. Transcending from the surreal social condition we find ourselves in will require a very different lens.
Truth, beauty and goodness are hanging on. I see evidence of it every day. I witness significant, albeit small, acts of kindness and genuine caring for others. I encounter people who act with character and do the right thing. I gaze at the natural beauty of my world, the signs Mother Nature sends us that everything will be alright if we don't stop noticing her inspirational splendor. Good people still do good things.
I believe in truth, beauty and goodness. We have to see what we believe. This is the lens we need.
Each morning presents a new opportunity to live in alignment with a transcendental perspective. In a world so convoluted and chaotic, it's critical that we try as hard as we can to get grounded in simple constructs. I challenge all of us to gaze at our ability to manifest truth, beauty and goodness while simply glancing at the sickness surrounding us. Be aware of it, but don't dwell on it. Walk confidently in peace with your conviction to be a good person, understanding how infectious that is. Practice it. Be deliberate with your efforts to lift people up. Reject everything else.
Are you willing to do this?
I am. It's the only thing that will save us.
